Makeup

The saviour of a bad day, but only if used well. There was a time, when my makeup “routine” included on putting on mascara, sometimes maybe lip gloss. Nothing more. Would have thought that there would be more makeup in my life, because having two older sisters, but no. They never taught me anything about it, so I never gained interest. Until few years back, when starting university. Watched so many tutorials, learned more about applying makeup and different kinds and now I can say that I’m okay doing it. Still trying to learn how to make some nice looks, but I’ve got time.

 Many of the brands that are sold in supermarkets or those kind of stores, are bad for my skin. Tried so many and every time my skin decided flare, pushing the pimples, annoying the living hell out of me. So more research in the future. Read about mineral makeups, people were saying that their skin problems vanished. Then my sister told that she has tried brand called BareMinerals, have worked okay with her so I decided to give it a go. Bought some, first it went okay, but my skin seemed to get little bit worse on some areas. Some of the BareMinerals makeups have this ingredient called Bismuth and it can cause some skin problems with people. Not with everybody, but I got them as did my sister.

So the next step was to find something to replace BareMinerals. Luckily my sister found this brand called Everyday Minerals, the company is based in US and seemed okay. Other good thing with Everyday Minerals is, that you can order a sample kit, because you want to try the different tones, which one fits your face. I ordered one, the tones are awesome and no skin problems. I have decided to wait sometime when ordering more of the base makeup, because I have some from Clarins. I do not want to have this huge collection of makeups that I won’t use. This is me trying to save money.

Now days I feel like that I'm taking better care of my skin, washing it in the morning and evening, using right type of moisturiser, not using too much make up, using gentle face masks few times per week, cleaning the pores. Here in pictures I've shown you my daily makeup routine before work. Well I do not use the mask everyday, but I do wash my face well in the morning. Now I'm waiting for some Everyday Mineral Makeup samples to arrive, hopefully they do not take long.

7. Final stage is coloring my eye brows, putting on Lumene Natural Code Mascara, Burts Bees lipbalm, Max Factor Scarlet Ghost and on top of it Power lipstick from LUSH, gives it a nice tint. 

There is also picture of my makeup "station". Good height for me and enough room for everything I have. There are also the new EM Makeup Brushes that I ordered last week. They work like a dream.

LUSH

I have an addiction and the addictions name is LUSH. I have written before about the products that I do have and after moving to UK, I have bought more. I wasn't even planning on buying more, but then I walked past the Lush/store here in Reading and I had to look what they have and the rest is history.

Before my addiction started, I did not know about all of the products that Lush have, but I visited their web page and read about their Henna-hair colours and I got from a small sample that I can try on my hair, to see it goes with me. I'll write about it more, when trying it. I also bought some new shampoo and hair conditioner, because I like to have some variety, its good for my scalp. I choose the I Love Juicy-shampoo, because its supposed to be gentle and clean greasy hair easily. It has worked for me quite well. For the hair conditioner I chose the Veganese, because the care for my scalp. I have tried so many products for my scalp and some are really bad and I scratch my scalp until it bleeds. Not nice. I think that I even burned my scalp few days after flying to UK, because here was so hot and I wasn't wearing a hat. Let's hope these products work well for me and my scalp.

For my face I bought the Eau Roma Water AKA toner water. I copied here what was written about the product, because it explains why I bought it. My skin is really sensitive.

This is an elegant formula that's suitable for even the most sensitive skins. Rose water will help to calm and reduce redness, whilst lavender water will balance and soften the skin. This was created as a way to hydrate and soothe the skin both gently and effectively. Use it for a quick, refreshing spritz or to remove any traces of makeup or cleanser.

I also bought an Ocean Salt face and body scrub. Have only used it once so do not have that good opinion. After the one time I used Ocean Salt, my skin felt so much softer and nicer and I love it. At the moment I have so many different, but good products so that they are going to last for a long time. I also bought two makeup products, Jackie Oates foundation and Power lipstick. I'm not so sure about the Jackie Oates yet, because I have used to using the Everyday Minerals Jojoba based powder and I like it so much, but I'll give it a chance. It was expensive, but it really matches with my skin tone. Pale as I am. The Power lipstick is a really nice shade. In the last few years I have learned to like using lipstick even if it's not party or anything, just a normal day. It makes me feel more sophisticated and pretty.

Just after I left from Finland, there was the Pride walk in Helsinki and at the same time it was in London, and USA finally has allowed to gay people to marry in every state. So Lush produced this "love-soap". I had to buy it. It's so pretty. Haven't used it yet, because there is no need. I also want to support them, because #gayisokay. If I would have to label me as something, it would be straight. I have few gay friends and I'm really happy to be their friend. When a guy marries another guy or the same with girls, how does it affect me? Is there something that affects my life when gay people get married? No, there are none.  I'm not the most vocal about the different things that I like and support, because I feel that I don't have to vocal about it. But this is something I like to vocal about.

Lush ja Friends and Brgrs

Kesä on vihdoin saapunut! On ollut aivan ihanaa säätä Helsingissä ja jopa minä, erittäin suuri sateen ja kylmän ilman ystävä, nautin näistä harvoista päivistä ja lämmöstä. Eilen päivä alkoi ystäväni kanssa "lounaalla" Steam Coffeessa Kaisaniemessä. Oli ihanaa kävellä Keskustan läpi ja nauttia leppoisasta ajasta rakkaan ystävän M:n kanssa, varsinkin kun kohta ei noin vain voi tehdä. Istuimme kahvilassa melkein kaksi tuntia, syöden ja juoruten. Myöhemmin ystäväni lähti viikonlopuksi kotiin ja minä päätin käydä kampaajalla. Hiukseni olivat huonossa kunnossa ja lämmön noustessa korkeammalle, minä nautin lyhyistä hiuksista. Minä monta kertaa yritän kasvattaa hiuksiani, mutta aina jossain vaiheessa käyn kampaajalla ja hupsista, on taas lyhyet hiukset. Ehkä sitten tästä alkaa taas hiusten kasvatus pikkuhiljaa.

Kesähiukset ja ilme sen mukainen!

Helsinkiin tuli uusi hampurilaispaikka, Friends and Brgrs,  huhtikuussa ja nyt vihdoin pääsin sitä kokeilemaan ystäväni T:n kanssa. Kyseinen ravintola on Mikonkatu 8:ssa, paikassa, jossa oli ennen Rax. Saavuttuamme paikanpäälle, siellä oli ihan hirveästi ihmisiä ja n. 50 minuutin jono. Päätimme kuitenkin, että haluamme syödä siellä, joten tilasimme, maksoimme ja menimme vieressä olevaan Amarilloon yhdille. Laitoimme puhelimeen ajastimen 35 minuutin päähän ja mennessämme takaisin, odotimme noin viisi minuuttia ja sitten saimme tilauksemme. Minä voin rehellisesti sanoa, että hampurilainen ja ranskalaiset, jotka siellä söin, olivat parhaimmat ikinä Suomessa ravintolassa syömäni. Ainoastaan olen kerran syönyt parempia, mutta silloin söin Seattlessa.

Tämä alkoi piippaamaan, kun ruoka oli valmista.

Tässä on minun herkullinen ateriani, Friends Brgr-ateria.

Friends and Brgrs on alunperin kotoisin Pietarsaaresta, jossa on heidän ensimmäinen ravintolansa. Olen hirveän iloinen, että siskoni A kertoi kyseisestä paikasta, koska muuten en olisi kyseistä paikkaa löytänyt. En hirveän usein syö hampurilaisia, vaikka ulkomuodon perusteella voisi luulla aivan toisin. Syötyämme kävelimme Keskustassa, poikkesimme Tiger:ssä katsomassa erilaisia tavaroita, mutta kumpikaan meistä ei ostanut mitään. Kierreltyämme ja kaarreltuamme päädyimme rautatieasemalle ja sitten siellä bongasimme vielä auki olevan LUSH-kaupan. Eli sinne siis. 

Minun päänahkani on erittäin herkkä erilaisille shampoille ja kemikaaleille, joten yleensä käytän apteekista ostettavaa shampoota. Välillä joudun myös vaihtelemaan shampooiden välillä, koska kun ihoni tottuu liikaa yhteen niin sitten alkaa kutina. Ei kivaa. Viime jouluna sain ystävältäni V:ltä lahjaksi Lush:in shampoopalan nimeltä Squeaky Green. Se shampoo pala on toiminut minulla erittäin hyvin, joten eilen päätin ostaa uuden, mutta eri tuoksuisen. Pähkäiltyäni hetken ja kerrottuani kaupan myyjälle, että millainen päänahka minulla on, hän suositteli minulle shampoota nimeltä Lullaby, joka on erittäin hellävarainen. Kokeilin sitä tänää ja olen taas erittäin tyytyväinen tuotteen laatuun. 

Ostin kaupasta myös palahoitoaineen, vaikka en ole aikaisemmin kokeillut, joten tässä kohtaa päädyin tuotteeseen nimeltä Jungle. Toivottavasti kyseinen tuote toimii minun kohdallani hyvin, koska en jaksaisi kokoaikaa metsästää sopivia tuotteita. 

Ensimmäinen asia, jota kysyin kyseisessä kaupassa, oli hyvä kasvojen puhdistusaine. Ostin viime syksynä ystävä-myynneistä Clarinsin puhdistusaineen, mutta jos käytän sitä liian usein, niin kasvoni kuivuvat erittäin paljon ja se vasta on epämiellyttävää. Kerrottuani myyjälle millaista etsin, hän antoi kaksi erittäin hyvää vaihtoehtoa, joita pystyin kokeilemaan kaupassa (pesin kummallakin saippualla yhden käden). Ensimmäinen jota kokeilin oli nimeltään Fresh Farmacy ja sitä kuvailtiin näin:

"Luonnollista kuulautta ihollesi tuo mieto kalamiini- ja kamomillasaippua, joka viilentää ja rauhoittaa. Ratkaise ihosi pitkäaikaisetkin ongelmakohdat tasapainottavalla ja epäpuhtauksia ehkäisevällä kalamiini- ja kamomillakasvosaippualla. Herkän sekaihon päivittäisestä puhdistuksesta tulee nautinto."

Kokeilin myös toista, jonka lopulta päädyin ostamaan ja sen nimi on Movis. Kyseisen saippuan kuvaus on tällainen: 

"E-vitamiinia sisältävä kasvosaippua on pullollaan ihoa hoitavia raaka-aineita kuten vehnää ja täysjyväleipää, joka kuorii ihoa hellästi. Sisältää myös ihoa kosteuttavaa kaakaovoita. Kasvosaippua on saanut inspiraationsa leipomisesta ja se tekee pesuhetkistäsi herkullisia."

Olen nyt jo kaksi kertaa käyttänyt Movista ja tähän asti olen pitänyt tunteesta, joka tulee kasvojen pesun yhteydessä. Jopa kuivattuani kasvot, ihoni tuntuu pehmeältä ja kostealta, eikä liian kuivalta niinkuin Clarinsia käyttäessäni. Enää en myöskään joudu jättämään kasvojani kosteiksi ennen kasvorasvan laittamista, iso plussa siitä. 

Kasvoissa minulla on sekaiho ja koko muu vartalo on tyypiltään erittäin kuivaa, melkein atooppista, joten valikoin tarkasti, että millaisia tuotteita käytän. Ostin pari viikkoa sitten Lumenen kasvorasvan sekaiholle, mutta se osoittautui erittäin pahaksi virheeksi. Kyseinen tuote ei auttanut kasvojani yhtään ja minua masensi mennä ulos, koska naama oli niin huonossa kunnossa. Kaupassa kokeilin kahta erilaista kasvorasvaa käsiini, jotta saisin vähän tuntumaa, että miltä ne tuoksuvat ja tuntuvat. Tuote johon päädyin,n oli nimeltään Enzymion, jota kuvaillaan Lush:in kotisivuilla näin: 

"Raikas, kevyt kasvovoide joka sisältää tuoretta hedelmää ja luonnon entsyymejä. Tekee kiiltävän ihon mattapintaiseksi ja ankean ihon heleäksi. On haasteellista löytää kevyt kosteusvoide rasvoittuvalle iholle. Hedelmäinen, kevyt ja helposti imeytyvä Entzymion on juuri sellainen. Rasvaisuudesta kärsivä iho tuottaa ihan ilokseen talia, luonnon omaa kosteusvoidetta, enemmän kuin on tarvetta. Samaan aikaa rasvaisuudesta kärsivän T-alueen ulkopuolella poskien kuivempi iho kaipaa kosteutusta. Öljyinen iho tarvitseekin aivan omanlaisensa kosteusvoiteen. Se on ultrakevyt, koska öljyinen iho ei pysty imemään itseensä paljon kosteutta. Papaijan, ananaksen ja limen entsyymit pilkkovat talin rasvamolekyylejä jolloin tuloksena on kaunis mattapintainen iho. Samalla Enzymionissa on kuitenkin hoitavia ja ravitsevia öljyjä joista iho hyötyy. Siitä löytyy kylmäpuristettua vehnänalkioöljyä – täynnä vitamiineja ja mineraaleja – sekä hoitavaa aloe vera -geeliä sekä kylmäpuristettua avokadoöljyä."

Tuossa kuvauksessa olevat kasvot ovat kuin minun. Aion kokeilla tätä tuotetta nyt ainakin kuukauden ajan ja katsoa, miten kasvoni reagoivat ja tottuvat. Päivän jälkeen tuntuu jo hyvältä, mutta ei sitä ikinä tiedä, että miten iho voi reagoida pidemmällä aikavälillä. Onneksi Lush on kotoisin Englannista ja Readingissä on kyseinen kauppa, joten minusta taitaa tulla vakiasiakas näiden tuotteiden myötä.

Noiden neljän pienen tuotteen hinnaksi tuli n. 60€

Tämän sain yllätyksenä mukaan, en siis suunnitellut ostavani suihkusaippuaa.

Summer is finally here! Normally I do not enjoy too warm weather, but I have been happy with the weather. Too bad that tomorrow is supposed to rain. The only thing that I do want is that it would be warm and sunny next Friday aka on Midsummer, but I think that is not going to happen. Yesterday started with a lunch at Steam Coffee in Kaisaniemi with my friend M. It was awesome to walk across the centrum, lots of people, warm weather and meeting friends. Soon I cannot do that so I have to enjoy now when I have the chance. We sat there in the Coffee shop around two hours talking and after that M was heading towards home for the weekend. I had been thinking about getting a haircut and I just did that. My hair was in a bad condition before and usually I try to cut it shorter before summer. There has been so many times I've been trying to grow my hair, but then I get bored and I'll visit the hair salon again. Maybe I should try to grow my hair again :)

About few months ago I heard from my sister that there is this new "gourmet" hamburger place in Helsinki called Friends and Brgrs, and yesterday I went there with my friend T. Well yesterday was Friday, it was very sunny and we went there around 6 pm so it was full of people and they told us it would take around 50 minutes that we would get some food. We decided to order our food and go to Amarillo that was just next door and enjoy something cold to drink. T put an alarm on her phone so it would ring after 35 minutes and when the timer went off, we went back to the hamburger place, and there it only took around 5 minutes and we got the food. And I can honestly say it was the best hamburger I have eaten in Finland. So good. And I do not usually eat hamburgers, because there are so many other good foods to eat. 

After eating we just started walking around centrum and we ended up in a store called LUSH. They sell different kinds of handmade cosmetics. I have some of their products already, because of my friend usually gives them as a gift. 

My scalp is really sensitive to chemicals so usually I buy my shampoo and conditioner from pharmacy, but last Christmas I got shampoo soap from V and she bought it from Lush. It worked really well with my hair so I decided to buy another one but with different scent. The new one is called Lullaby and it is perfect for sensitive scalps. I also bought an conditioner soap, but I have never tried them before so I just chose one that is called Jungle. Hopefully it'll work for me. 

The first thing that I asked after in the store, was a good face wash. Last fall I bought a face wash from Clarins and it was good in the beginning, but if I would use it too much, my skin would dry too much and that was very unpleasant. After telling the sales person what kind of skin I have, she recommended two different products; Fresh Farmacy and Movis. With them I washed left and right hand so that I could compare the results and I liked Movis better. I bought Movis and after using it few times, I'm really happy with the product. My face feels so soft and moist. 

The skin on my face is combination, but my body is very dry, almost atopic so I try to be very careful with the products that I use. Few weeks ago I bought a moisturising cream that was meant for combination skin but it did not work for me, not at all. I did not like to go outside because my face was in bad shape. Yesterday I tried two different kinds of moisturisers so I could have some kind of picture of how they feel and smell. I decided to buy the more expensive one, called Enzymion, because it felt so good on my skin. After using it yesterday and today, I have been very happy with it. I'm going to try these products for a month and see how my skin likes them. Luckily Lush is from England and Reading has a Lush-store so soon I'm going to be a regular customer there.
