London, day 2

Sooo, here I am again, writing about the Bank Holiday weekend which was already three weeks ago, but feels like only few days. I have had so many other things in my mind, but today I'll write the whole trip here, so that it won't haunt me forever.

On the second day V wanted to go sightseeing before the Warner Bros studio, so we decided to take the Piccadilly line from Kings Cross and started our adventure. With my normal luck, it was raining quite heavily, I did not have good waterproof shoes and my umbrella broke down. We walked from Leicester Square to Victoria Embankment, had some "breakfast" from Starbucks and continued walking and taking pictures. There was Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and so many different locations to see and all the time it continued to rain. My shoes were soaked. Then we decided to walk to Victoria Bus Station so that we would know where our bus would be leaving for the studios. Went there, but we still had way too much time before so I googled the nearest Waterstone's and we walked there, because my fried had wanted to buy a London tourist book.

On the way, I bought a new umbrella and we also visited a tea store called T2 Tea. They had different teas to taste, nice looking cups and teapots and I felt like in heaven. My tea addiction here in UK has gone to new dimensions. I did not buy anything, but I know where it is, they more stores in London than one and they also have a online store, so I'm going to buy their tea soon. Maybe buy a new teapot and a travel mug for tea.

Then at Waterstone's I saw so many good books that I wanted to buy, but only got two, that is enough for me now. My friend did not find a good book and soon we started to walk back to the Victoria Station. I wanted to buy something to eat, I was so hungry after walking so much. We had booked our HP tour from the Golden Tours, because it was the easiest way for us, because it included the trip to both ways and the ticket there. Our trip begun from London at 3 pm and they showed Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone on the way.

Soon we were there and I can say that it was so amazing and I really wanted that it would have been real. Some people have so good imaginations and J.K. Rowling is one of them, and I'm really happy that I grew up when I did and reading the Harry Potter books. They were a big part of my childhood and I love the books so much.

We took huge amounts of pictures there, so I let the pictures do the speaking for you.

The end of the pictures. I tried to put them in some kind of good order and that there would be a "theme". We took so many photos with my friend and I had to leave some of them out. But if you're a Harry Potter fan, I do recommend visiting the studios. You can buy Butterbeer and different candies from there.

September is here, autumn is near

Time has flown away, because a moment ago I was on my way to Heathrow airport, picking up my friend, waiting for this long bank holiday weekend and London. That was last week. Now it’s already the 7th and I feel like there are so many things I’m missing.

The weekend started by me leaving little bit earlier from work, cleaning my room and then getting a rail air bus from Reading station towards Heathrow. Luckily the return ticket was cheap, around 20£. At the airport I had to wait, her flight was few minutes delayed, but finally we could take a bus back to Reading. We went to Tesco’s, bought some breakfast for her, extra pillow and a comforter, because I did not have any. The extra mattress/bed looked awful and I’m so happy that I did not have to sleep on it. My poor friend.

On Saturday we had breakfast, I cleaned up my cappuccino shake that exploded in the kitchen and around noon we started towards Reading centre. My friend wanted to visit Hobby Craft store, because she had read they sell some kind of glow in the dark paint. I managed not to buy anything new, even if I felt like buying everything for projects that I do not have any time to do. We also walked around Reading, went to Oracle shopping centre, I bought BareMinerals lipstick, mascara and a face primer for oily skin, only costing me around sixty pounds. Feel so poor at the moment.

That afternoon we also went to see a movie called Inside Out and I think it was really great. Imagine these little emotions like joy, sadness, anger, disgust and fear living in your brain and they decide all your reactions. It was well done and not just for kids. There was also a short movie called Lava before the actual movie. It was about a lonely Volcano who dreamed about love. There also was a song that can be stuck in your head for days. Happened to me. It still there, the song stuck in my head. Not nice and bit annoyed about it.

After that we went to Tesco, bought some ingredients to make dinner. After eating we watched another movie from my computer, it was called Lucy. Interesting, but would not say that it’s completely my type. Then we started planning more for London, stuff to do, places to visit. She really wanted to visit Madame Tussaud's, so we bought tickets from online, they were cheaper that way.

We both were excited and not tired, so we played a board game called Hotel. The main idea was to buy property and build hotels there and later on upgrade the hotels. Very similar to Monopoly, but still not the same. I bought it from eBay, well technically my sister bough it, but it was cheaper to post to UK than to Finland. I just have to take it to her in October.

Later on postings about time in London and days after my vacation.

Melkein valmistunut ja muutto

Viimeisin vuosi on mennyt erittäin nopeasti.

Ensin aloitin irtisanomalla asuntoni.

Siinäkin piti ottaa paljon eri asioita huomioon. Halusin, että lennän paikan päälle viikkoa ennen töiden alkamista, mutta haluan kuitenkin viettää Juhannuksen Suomessa eli päivät, joille etsin lentoja oli 23. - 24.6.

Asunnon tyhjennys. Eräs ystäväni on erittäin todennäköisesti ostamassa sänkyni, koska hänen pikkusiskollaan on erittäin huono sänky tällä hetkellä.

Too much stuff!

The last year has gone really fast, because a year ago I was spending my last week in Shanghai before flying back to Finland and now I have under two weeks left in Finland. After I returned from Shanghai, I have done my internship and almost everyone of the mandatory courses, I'm only missing my Chinese language project and thesis, and after those two, I'm going to graduate.

There was this plan to stay and live in Finland. I've been renting this great flat in Töölö and I'm sad about leaving. This last spring has been really depressing for me, especially in doing school work. I managed to pass everything and with quite good grades. There has also been another problem and that is the lack of jobs. I have applied in so many places but nothing. So that is the reason why I started searching jobs from abroad, mainly in Ireland and UK. I put my CV on so many different recruiting pages but did not hear anything for some time. So i started planning my summer here in Finland, spending time at the summer cabin, doing some renovations and writing my thesis.

In the end of May I got an invitation for a job interview, but I did not have the chances to fly to UK so we had the interview through Skype. The job was going to be in this really small village in Berkshire. The person who interviewed me was really nice and the whole thing went really fast and she said that they are going to inform about the job by next Friday (the interview was on Wednesday). On Friday I was really nervous, checking my email every five minutes, but nothing. And when I did not hear anything by next Tuesday, I thought I did not get the place so I decided to forget the whole thing. Then came the big surprise on Thursday morning. I was planning to sleep late and do nothing the whole day, but I live next to a football field and they had some kind of a commotion starting early in the morning so no sleep for me.

I had been texting with my sister and when she took her dog for a walk, we decided it would be easier to talk in the phone. With my sister, we can talk almost about anything and when I got the email that offered me the job, we were talking about midsummer plans. I was completely surprised, because I did not think I would get the job. First I was really happy but then I thought of all the things I'll have to do before moving. Because it was end of May, the first thing to be done, was giving notice to my landlady so that I'm moving away, then start looking for a place in UK, buy a flight ticket and get rid of everything I own. As I said, lot to do.

Then I started doing, called my landlady and gave the notice. She was sad to lose me as a tenant, but happy that I got a job. There is this pessimistic alter ego living in me and that is not always a good thing, because I got this feeling that this plan of mine is going to fall apart. Next step, the place to live. My future job it's in a small village, but I wanted to find a place in a bigger city close by that is called Reading. I'll have to commute to work, but I'll live with that. When I was searching for a place, I noticed that the rents are really high in UK. Here in Finland I pay 700€/month excluding utilities and I live in the centrum of Helsinki, but in Reading I'm going to pay around 600€/month for a room, utilities included. After looking and searching, I found this perfect room for me. It's close by the train station and busses, there are things to do and the rent is going to be okay. I had to pay the deposit and I really hope that at the other end there is going to be an apartment and not a scam. But I have a good feeling and luckily my sister helped me.

Well, now the apartment is okay, so now looking for the flight ticket. There were some things that I had to take into consideration when booking the flight, like I want to fly there before the job starts but spending the Midsummer in Finland is important. So the good dates for flying were 23rd or 24th of June. From many different places, I noticed that flying to London from Stockholm would be cheaper and I almost bought tickets from SAS website, luckily did not. Tickets might be cheap, but the luggages cost much. My dear friend told me about if you fly with Norwegian and buy your tickets from a travel agency, you get 2x20kg bags free. Well of course I did that. I went to Kilroy Travels web page and from there I found this perfect flight for me and it only cost 94€. Now I feel like everything is in control.
Emptying the apartment, that is my project now. I have already given away so much stuff and started selling my bigger furniture in Tori.fi. There are not many of them and after yesterday, my Ikea Expedit shelf is history. Now there is only the queen size bed and writing desk. Another of my friends is going to buy the bed, because her little sister's bed is awful. One person showed interest in the desk so I just might get rid of everything in time. I've got this plan that the apartment would be empty and clean so that I can give the keys back before midsummer.
At the moment my moods are really going up and down and I'm thinking that what the heck am I doing? I'm happy and sad and sad and happy. Luckily there are so many things to do so soon I'm flying. If I would not have restless feet, I think I could be happy in Finland.
